The RI Sports Center is the home of the John W. Kennedy Jr. memorial ice rink. The RI Sports Center changed ownership in February 2001. The sports center is now locally owned and managed. It is the RI Sports Center's intention to create and maintain a more comfortable and enjoyable skating facility. The rink underwent major renovations in 2006 and 2011 to provide our customers with state-of- the-art conditions. The sports center now offers a state of the art strength and conditioning center on the 2nd floor.
The rink has been named in honor of the late John W. Kennedy Jr. who was a former hockey star at Norwich University and devoted 20 years of his time to youth hockey in East Providence and the Greater Providence Youth Hockey Association. This facility will also be a host for the annual John W. Kennedy Jr. Hockey Tournament. The generosity and support of the Kennedy family has enabled the RI Sports Center to make many renovations and improvements to the facility. The RI Sports Center thanks the Kennedy family for their generosity and involvement in this rink.
